HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

// December 15th, 2011 // No Comments »

Seasonal Greetings to one and all.
I am already filled with the festive spirit. And when I say spirit, I mean more mince pies, peppermint bark and those iced cookies with red and green sprinkles that my kid made. So I had to eat those, obviously. Marley is six now. The years really fly by, don’t they?

I have just written and recorded a new song, “Christmas In London” and it’s now available in iTunes and other digital stores. Inspired by a recent trip, I was reminded of the golden olden Christmases of yore when, as a struggling young muso in my early twenties, I was living in a flat in Camden Town, north London, with a couple of other creative types. We decided it would be a jolly good idea to spray snow on the windows for the holidays. It was still there in July, as none of us could be bothered to scrape it off.
By the time we got to September, we figured we might as well leave it up there until, well, Christmas.

I sent the song over to Grant Mitchell, the producer who played on and arranged all my early stuff (“Happy Ever After” and “Porcelain”) and he has given it what I am calling “The Creamy Deluxe Harrods of London Fancy Pants Mix.”

I am looking forward to singing it at the Judith Owen and Harry Shearer Holiday Sing-Along at the Broad Theatre in Santa Monica this Friday, Dec 16 @ 7:30pm.
It is going to be a sparkling evening. I hope you can join us as there are some truly splendid guests, such as: Michael McKean, Annette O’Toole, Richard Thompson, Julianna Raye & Jane Lynch. Tickets are available here.

I loved being back in my old home town of London last week. I really did get to see all the lights in Oxford Street and the carol singers of Trafalgar Square, as mentioned in “Christmas In London.” While I was there, I also got to sing with Judith who did a stunning show at the Pheasantry on Kings Road, where I hope to see you all next summer since I plan on playing there.

Wishing the very best of everything to everyone for the remainder of this year and 2012.
Julia x

BEYOND THE BATTLEFIELD

The Huffington Post began a ten-part series “Beyond the Battlefield” – an exploration of the challenges, victories and problems that catastrophically wounded soldiers encounter after returning home from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. And they included our video “UnSung Hero.” You can read the series and watch the video here.
